Quick background:
Having a German origin, I was born in and grew up in
Romania (for US people: this is in the Eastern Europe).
My education includes a masters degree in Computer Science
and a doctoral degree in Mathematics.
After 5 years of teaching at the Bucharest University, since
1999 I'm working as a software engineer at Microsoft Corporation in Seattle, USA.

Education |
|
I got my education at the Department of
Computer Science of the University of
Bucharest, gaining in 1994 the Romanian equivalent to
a Masters degree.
6 years later, after the public defense of my doctoral thesis
in Applied Mathematics/Operational Research, I was conferred the
title of Ph.D. in Mathematics.
Besides the professional curriculum, I studied piano for 7 years, learned a
total of 5 languages (ok, today I may not able to speak more than 3 of them)
and trained in several sports, from skiing to various flavors of
Japanese martial arts.

Profession |
|
Before joining Microsoft Corporation in 1999, I was a software
engineer at SoftExpert Inc, where I was heading the Software Development
department.
At the same time I was an assistant professor at the Bucharest Technical
University , where I was teaching classes in Windows Programming and
Applied Mathematics.
1999 I joined the Microsoft Corporation as a software engineer, working at
the development of the new (at that time) dotNet platform. One year later, I joined
to the Windows Public Key Security team, contributing to shipping 2 major releases of
the best Windows operating system ever released.
After 5 more years spent with the Windows PKS team, in 2005 I left
the Servers world, to become a QA Lead with the Photos and Imaging eXperience team.
With photography as my main hobby, I moved now to the next step with both my career
and my hobby, bringing my contribution to creating the perfect Microsoft tool for photographers.

Interests |
I enjoy traveling (particularly to Europe - Lisbon is one of
my favorites), bicycling, playing bridge, and all good things from
Europe (Swiss chocolate, Romanian food, German beer, French museums and
Irish cream :-)
When I'm not concentrated on my work, I'm listening almost any kind of music
- from Bach to Britney Spears (actually, including Bach, but not including
Britney Spears :-)
For other things I like doing in my spare time, see my "hobbies" section.
